SHAPING THE ENVIRONMENTAL AGENDA

When it comes to influence in Washington, SNRE faculty and alumni are wielding a lot of it on environmental and energy issues. Profiled in the latest issue of Stewards are Chris Miller (M.S. '88) and Mary Frances Repko (M.S. '91), two leading Capitol Hill staffers on environmental and energy issues. Their status is due as much to their professional experiences and abilities as to the influence over legislation wielded by the powerful Congressional leaders they serve.

Message from the dean

I'm thrilled to be back after a year working with the World Bank to co-author its World Development Report 2010, which focused on development and climate change. I want to extend a special thanks to Dave Allan, who served so ably as acting dean in my absence. I hope you take time to review the current issue of Stewards (see above) and to plan a return visit to campus—either for Homecoming this weekend or the Landscape Architecture 100th Anniversary (Oct. 9-10). The school is definitely in high gear, as evidenced by five faculty searches under way, two of which resulted from our faculty's efforts to propose positions via the President's Interdisciplinary Junior Faculty Initiative. I'm looking forward to a rewarding year!

Rosina M. Bierbaum, professor and dean
