City of Ann Arbor
In her internship at the City of Ann Arbor, Mickey Aldridge learned about the daily operation of a local government. She served on a team of interdisciplinary planners, who work on a variety of environmental planning issues, as well as infrastructure planning, urban and community planning, and transportation planning. During her time at the City, Mickey gained exposure to several planning initiatives and worked collaboratively across departments, building and understanding of City operations and local public policy. Her specific projects included: -Developing a multi-objective Huron River management plan with diverse stakeholders: collaboratively creating a long-term community vision and strategic implementation plan; co-managing subcommittee working groups; serving on steering committee to guide planning process. -Writing a citizen-friendly community report on 60 technical environmental indicators to inform citizens and advise City Council on future environmental policy decisions. She also helped with small special projects as they arose, including helping to staff public events such as Earth Day and the Mayor's Green Fair. The staff were always incredibly supportive of Mickey's work. The City's planning initiatives are regularly nationally recognized for creativity and progressive thinking by the American Planning Association.
