Duke Energy
This summer Meredith Irwin worked in the Environmental, Health, and Safety Policy group at Duke Energy Corporation. The primary focus of her internship was to analyze the potential for electricity generation using woody biomass feedstocks in franchised service territory and the impacts of this generation on forest sustainability. The EHS group used her research to inform and shape the company's policy position on biomass power. In addition, she created internal communication documents to inform employees of the competencies, performance, and long-term strategies of current and potential Chinese partner companies. She also conducted research and wrote short reports on a number of other environmental and/or policy topics, as needed by members of the EHS group throughout the summer.
