Michigan Department of Environmental Quality
| Kristin Fisher worked for two summers at the MDEQ and has been involved in a variety of projects concerning environmental education, climate change policy, and environmental justice policy in the state. Two such projects included: 1) Researching, writing, and preparing funding proposals in order to continue and/or start alternative environmental education programs. She was able to network with professionals from around the region, as well as gaining such skills as the ability to write and review research and funding proposals, presentation and communication speaking skills, and the ability to work within a given, and ever-changing timeline. 2) Composing policy reports (primarily on environmental justice and aquatic invasive species initiatives) in order to provide background for policy-makers working on environmental justice and AIS issues around the region. Kristin was able to network with professionals and scientists and gained the ability to effectively and efficiently communicate in the written and verbal word. Gaining communication skills were personally important to Kristin in the search for an internship. |
