Michigan Tech Research Institute

Naomi Hamermesh mainly assisted with two different projects at MTRI.  She did data prep and field work for a project that worked on mapping wetlands and specifically Phragmites (an invasive reed) in the great lakes basins.  She also did some data analysis and creation for a project involving the mapping of agricultural land in the continental U.S. with the hopes of using such a map to calculate emissions associated with both accidental and planned burning of these areas.  She gained a lot of computer skills using programs such as ERDAS IMAGINE, ArcInfo, ENVI, and Python (including ArcPy).  She also gained valuable experience working full time in an office setting.
