National Wildlife Federation

Heath Nero interned with the National Wildlife Federation.

The National Wildlife Federation, founded in 1936, is Americaí¢â‚¬â„¢s largest, private, non-profit, conservation education and advocacy organization.  Throughout its history, protection of vital wildlife habitat on Americaí¢â‚¬â„¢s public lands has been a priority of NWF.  NWF's Office of Federal and International Affairs, in Washington, D.C., carries conservation concerns to Congress, government agencies, the courts, and the international arena to help ensure the development and enforcement of effective conservation policies and laws that protect the health and quality of life of people and the conservation of wild species and their habitats.  NWFí¢â‚¬â„¢s work on western public lands (Heath's interest) falls under the Office of Federal and International Affairs and is the department he worked in.  During Heath's eleven weeks in Washington DC, he conducted legislative analyses, participated in lobby strategy meetings, attended lobbying meetings, and created fact sheets on oil shale production on public lands, the Bureau of Land Managementí¢â‚¬â„¢s National Landscape Conservation System, and the role protected public lands can play in mitigating the effects of climate change.
