Slow Food Huron Valley
Lauren Maloney's internship was with Slow Food Huron Valley in Ann Arbor, MI. Slow Food Huron Valley is a local chapter of Slow Food USA. This non-profit organization is comprised entirely of volunteers that promote good, clean, and fair food in the community. Lauren was able to gain critical skills that are needed to work in the non-profit sector. Her main projects included organizing and executing a 70 member Heirloom Seed Trial, development of the Eat Well Guide-a listing for local, sustainable and organic food in the Ann Arbor area, grant writing and fundraising, and participating in the Steering Committee for the planning of the HomeGrown Festival. She learned how to create and implement programs and events and she gained valuable experience in the non-profit sector.
