SunGard (through the EDF Climate Corps Fellowship)

Ryan Whisnant's internship this summer was through the Environmental Defense Fundí¢â‚¬â„¢s Climate Corps Fellowship, working as a Sustainability Analyst for SunGard, a $5B IT services company based in Wayne, PA.

Equipped with training on energy efficiency and high performance buildings from the Rocky Mountain Institute, Ryan performed an energy assessment of the company headquarters, as well as a smaller nearby facility. The findings were used to develop a financial model of initiatives and investment opportunities, resulting in recommendations for 25% energy savings at the headquarters campus. In addition to specific recommendations for the facilities, he developed broader strategic recommendations for energy policy across the company, including integration with other energy programs. In support of equity owner KKRí¢â‚¬â„¢s Green Portfolio Project, Ryan wrote and published an internal SunGard Office Energy Efficiency Handbook targeting $4M in annual energy savings across SunGardí¢â‚¬â„¢s North American offices.
