World Resources Institute

Emily Taylor spent the majority of her time at WRI shepherding two working papers through the publication process. The first working paper, she helped with the final components of editing, revising, research, and review before proofing and publishing. The second paper she contributed more substantially to the content (is now listed as an author), and guided it through the internal review and partway through the external review. Another key component to her internship was developing a communications strategy on how to best promote and distribute the papers and the messages in the papers. Drafting a comprehensive strategy including online, web, blog, presentation, event, and personal outreach components. Professionally, Emily learned about how to do research and writing for research NGO publications. She also gained a strong grasp of basic finance as it relates to international development and climate change mitigation. Emily also incorporated many elements of business development to the project team as we coordinated monthly calls with our peers at other organizations to establish a network of information sharing. Personally, she learned that organizations like WRI are a great place to gain the skills and experiences to make one a better researcher, writer and analytical thinker, and enjoyed the small team atmosphere of her group.
