World Wildlife Fund Romania

In this internship Scott provided assistance with the first stages of developing a database that would become an online mapping tool concerning protected areas accessible to both decision makers and citizens.  The bulk of this work involved creating maps in GIS of fish farms and land use and organizing the data associated with them accordingly.  Some field work was also involved in order to collect species data.  Scott learned a tremendous amount about viewing environmental issues from the perspective of other countries and cultures.  The task of organizing the database itself with real and, inevitably, messy data was also extremely useful, going well beyond what could have been possible in a classroom setting.
