Grantees may not hold a DAAD grant with funding from another German, German-American or German-Canadian organization for the same period. Short-term grants with the May deadline must be started between four and 12 months after the application deadline.

For international travel to academic conferences.

A student is eligible to receive one travel grant award (either domestic or international, but not both) during a fiscal year which runs from July 1 - June 30, based on the date the conference is attended.

• Up to $600 for the continental US.
• Up to $850 for Alaska, Hawaii, Puerto Rico, Canada, Mexico, the Caribbean, and Europe.
• Up to $1,100 for Africa, Asia, South America, and Australia.

May request for grant to be paid directly to tuition or direct deposit. Stipend paid monthly. Payment occurs 4-6 weeks after start of fellowship.

Sucessful applicants must evaluate tax liability.

Grant is awarded based on merit, not financial need. Project must be consistent with mission of Trout Unlimited and take place in North America.

Travel Grant:

• An HIF Fellow can receive all or part of economy class transportation expenses for travel to and from Japan. The travel subsidy for round-trip travel is Â¥300,000 maximum (or up to Â¥150,000 for one way travel). To receive the inbound travel subsidy, the researcher must be living outside Japan; to receive the outbound subsidy a researcher must leave Japan within 30 days of completion of the research program.
• An HIF Fellow may receive assistance in his/her research from the research advisor, participate in lectures and seminars, and use other facilities of Hosei University.
• An HIF Fellow will be provided with shared office space, PC, and a Hosei University network ID.

Housing:

Hosei University will provide, upon request, a furnished apartment. However, the rent (approximately ¥100,000 per month) must be borne by the Fellow. (Note that rental expenses are subject to change)

Project costs incurred after receipt of the proposal will not be reimbursed if the proposal is not approved for funding.

Ineligible for funding: routine expenses of the contributor; project management salary costs prior to grant execution; project planning and proposal development, including investigations to document the project's resource value; conservation education materials or salaries; fundraising; law enforcement; research; boat ramps, parking lots, roads, and other public access work; observation towers and blinds; routine operations and maintenance salaries and costs; building construction, repairs, and value of donated property; the value of existing residences, structures, and buildings unnecessary for wetland conservation purposes and the cost to construct, remove, or repair same; equipment acquisition in lieu of a more cost-effective means (e.g. renting, using equipment on hand); acquisition of vehicles; costs over the appraised value for fee-title and easement acquisitions; or short-term annual conservation activities, such as predator management. 

Projects or programs that are primarily educational or recreational in nature or designed to increase or improve river access will NOT be considered. Proposals will be accepted for projects located in any county within the Muskegon River Watershed.

Does not support conferences, travel to scientific meetings, legal actions, tuitions or salaries at institutions, and overhead costs.

Funds must be matched (at least one-to-one) with funds from non-federal sources.

No overhead charges can be deducted from the funds provided by the MSGC. Funding can be used for travel and to purchase supplies and services. Funding can also be used for faculty and student salaries if they are U.S. citizens. Funding cannot be used to purchase equipment or to pay salaries, stipends, or travel to persons that are not U.S. citizens.

Funding does not cover tuition or other institutional fees, travel costs, or equipment.
