CGI U Outstanding Commitment Awards up to $10,000

We don't fund: dissertations, internships, staff salaries, personal stipends, or research without a tangible action component. In most cases, we’re also unlikely to cover travel or large organizational capacity-building grants.

If you are a recipient of a CGI U Outstanding Commitment Award, you will need a 501c3 fiscal sponsor who can process your grant. This fiscal sponsor can be an academic department, a center on campus, or a non-profit in your local community. If you are an international applicant, you will also be required to identify a fiscal sponsor which is a tax-exempt organization similar to a 501c3 in the US.

Student Grant recipients may additionally be asked to capture and document their work once monthly using video and or camera images and to provide these images to the Program Sponsor and/or Program Administrator upon request. Failure of any Student Grant recipient to provide Program Sponsor and/or Program Administrator with Eco-Program status updates as requested may result in suspension or termination of Grant disbursements, in Program Sponsor’s sole discretion.

December
Neotropical Bird Club Conservation Award Up to $1,500, generally $1,000-$1,200

Applicants are advised that, other than in exceptional cases, awards will only be given to projects that meet all the following three criteria:

  • projects with a total budget small enough for the NBC award to be a significant proportion of that total. The maximum amount that can be requested is US$1,500 and projects are typically awarded US$1,000-1,200;

  • projects that are likely to achieve constructive local engagement in some form, such as environmental education in local communities, working with local decision-making or land-management organisations, or local/international publicity.

  • projects that are likely to achieve high global conservation benefit. This means that the project must target either globally threatened species or globally important sites, as defined below, in order to be eligible for funding, unless there is an exceptional reason to waive this rule (e.g. species new to science). It is essential that your project makes a direct contribution to species or site conservation, or as a minimum is developed in close collaboration with a conservation agency or organisation. We do not fund projects that lack a strong conservation focus, e.g. pure avian biology research. Environmental education projects that encourage the conservation of threatened species or globally important sites are eligible.
