At least three $5,000 awards will be made (one Susan Lipschutz, one Margaret Ayers Host, and one Anna Olcott Smith) for Spring/Summer 2010 support.

Liebmann Fund

The Liebmann Fund has announced the 2010-2011 competition.    The trust will accept up to three (3) nominations from UM.   The fellowship provides a stipend of $18,000, full tuition for fall and winter, and health and dental benefits. The fellowship is renewable for up to two (2) additional years.   It is open to students pursuing a graduate degree in the humanities, social sciences or natural sciences (including law, medicine, engineering, architecture, or other formal professional training).

2010 Environmental Public Policy & Conflict Resolution Dissertation Fellowship

The Udall Foundation awards two one-year fellowships of up to $24,000 to doctoral candidates whose research concerns U.S. environmental public policy and/or U.S. environmental conflict resolution, and who are entering their final year of writing the dissertation. Dissertation Fellowships are intended to cover both academic and living expenses from July 1, 2010 through June 30, 2011. The application deadline is February 24, 2010.

Shapiro/Malik Awards

The deadline for the Shapiro/Malik Awards is October 15th, 2009. They were established by Harold T. Shapiro, former President of the University of Michigan and Vivian Shapiro, former faculty member at the University of Michigan, to assist with interest payments on the unsubsidized educational loans that students are obligated to pay while still in graduate school. Dr. John Malik, a devoted Rackham alumnus in Physics, established an endowment for the same purpose. Both awards are made through a single competition.

NOMINATION REQUEST: Rackham Predoctoral Fellowship for 2010-2011

Approximately 72 fellowships will be awarded campus-wide for 2010-11; approximately 240 students are nominated each year.  This award consists of candidacy tuition and registration fees, GradCare health insurance, and a $2,250 monthly stipend for a maximum of 12 months.  Applicants must be advanced to candidacy by 15 January 2010 and must be nominated by their department.

King-Chavez-Parks Initiative, Future Faculty Fellowship

The King-Chavez-Parks Future Faculty Fellowship Program is funded by the State of Michigan and is intended to increase the pool of traditionally underrepresented candidates pursuing faculty teaching careers in postsecondary education. Preference may not be given to applicants on the basis of race, color, ethnicity, gender, or national origin.

Ford Foundation Diversity Fellowships are designed to increase the diversity of the nation's college and university faculties by increasing their ethnic and racial diversity, to maximize the educational benefits of diversity, and to increase the number of professors who can and will use diversity as a resource for enriching the education of all students.

Eligibility Requirements:

  • - US Citizen or national
  • - Planning a career in teaching and research at the college or university level

2010 JEAN MONNET GRADUATE FELLOWSHIP

APPLICATION DEADLINE: December 1, 2009 Thanks to a grant from the European Commission, the European Union Center and the Horace H. Rackham School of Graduate Studies are offering students summer grants of $5,000 to work on issues of European integration, broadly defined. Student grantees will conduct research leading to the writing of a paper on a relevant topic of their choosing. It is expected that during the spring and/or summer of 2010 the grantees, in consultation with faculty advisors of their choosing, will devote twelve weeks of full time work to their projects.

Nomination must be done by a faculty member.  Nomination deadline is 15 October 2009, 5:00pm.In addition to the Graham nomination process, SNRE also has a couple of supplemental pieces related to the department match commitment and the budget that will need to be completed 1-2 weeks PRIO

SNRE may nominate up to 2 students for these awards.  Up to twenty $1,000 awards will be made.  Please notify me by 1 October 2009 if you would like to nominate someone.  All faculty nomination statements (maximum of 2-3 paragraphs) must be submitted to me via e-mail.  If I receive more than 2 notifications of intent, the Scholarship and Admissions Committee will need to determine which ones to go forward with.

2009-10 Rackham International Students Fellowship

The Rackham International Students Fellowship Program is available to assist outstanding international students, especially those who are not eligible for other kinds of support because of citizenship.

Up to twenty awards of $7,500 will be made for 2009-10.  Students must be nominated by their program, and in their second or third term of study during the Fall 2009 term.

1.    Faculty nominator submits 2-3 paragraphs to me via e-mail    

  • Specify graduation date
