Funding Abstract: 

The scholarship is made available by the generous contributions of active and retired U.S. Forest Service personnel and is available to qualified individuals on a competitive basis.
For nearly two decades the 101 Scholarship has been funded entirely by contributions from Forest Service employees-it was named the 101 Scholarship to signify the way that Forest Service personnel have always given "101 percent" in everything they do.

(1) personal resume, including the identity of and relationship to an active or retired U.S. Forest Service employee,
(2) a letter from the accredited institution indicating enrollment in a qualifying field of studies and verification of GPA for all college coursework, and

There is no scholarship application required beyond these materials and there is no application fee.

The SPSSI Committee on Grants-in-Aid (GIA) wishes to support scientific research in social problem areas related to the basic interests and goals of SPSSI and particularly those that are not likely to receive support from traditional sources. The Committee especially encourages proposals involving (a) unique and timely research opportunities, (b) underrepresented institutions, graduate students, and junior scholars, (c) volunteer research teams, and (d) actual, not pilot, projects.   Funding up to $1,000 is available for graduate student research, with strong preference given to applications from students at the dissertation stage of the graduate career. Such proposals must be accompanied by an appropriate official university agreement to match the amount requested. This matching requirement will not be waived.  Documentation of submission to the applicant's Institution IRB must accompany every submission. The usual grant from SPSSI is for up to $1,000 for doctoral work.

The Davis-Putter Scholarship Fund provides grants to students actively working for peace and justice. These need-based scholarships are awarded to those able to do academic work at the university level and who are part of the progressive movement on the campus and in the community. Early recipients worked for civil rights, against McCarthyism, and for peace in Vietnam. Recent grantees have been active in the struggle against racism, sexism, homophobia, and other forms of oppression; building the movement for economic justice; and creating peace through international anti-imperialist solidarity.

Funding Abstract: 

To honor Truman D. Picard the Intertribal Timber Council (ITC) established a scholarship program in his name. Truman served on the ITC Board of Directors from 1982 to 1985. While working for the Bureau of Indian Affairs, Colville Agency (Nespelem, Washington), in presales he attended the Forest Engineering Institute at Oregon State University becoming one of the first people form the agency to complete this program. In 1977, Truman transferred to the Colville Tribal Forestry organization taking a position as Supervisory Forest Technician in charge of woods operations. Later he was promoted to Assistant Supervisor of Forestry Operations.  The Truman D. Picard Scholarship Program is dedicated to the support of Native American students pursuing a higher education in Natural Resources.
