CAFE is hosting a Sustainable Food Careers Symposium Friday, Feb. 15, Room 1040 of the Dana Building. The symposium brings graduate and undergraduate students together with professionals in food careers related to sustainability and the environment. Prior to SNRE: I served as a Peace Corps volunteer in Senegal, West Africa, working with women's cooperatives and primary schools to increase the productivity of community gardens while extending information on conservation and environmental health. I also danced a lot.

Forty master's and professional-degree students from eight schools and colleges at the University of Michigan, including 17 from the School of Natural Resources and Environment, are beginning the Dow Sustainability Fellows Program today, marking the first cohort of fellows in the $10 million program launched last spring.

APPLICATION DEADLINE: EXTENDED TO 25 February 2013 Climate-related changes are affecting every community around the globe. These changes are influencing the resources of all nations, especially agriculture, fuel sources, and water supplies, and are changing every facet of life, especially among the young and aging populations. Solutions will come from interdisciplinary research.In May 2013, the North Pacific Research Board (NPRB) will award up to six Graduate Student Research Awards of $25,000 each to three qualified Master's students and three Doctoral students for the opportunity to address scientific, technological, and socio-economic issues relating to the research themes identified in the 2005 NPRB Science Plan.
