We don't fund: dissertations, internships, staff salaries, personal stipends, or research without a tangible action component. In most cases, we’re also unlikely to cover travel or large organizational capacity-building grants.

If you are a recipient of a CGI U Outstanding Commitment Award, you will need a 501c3 fiscal sponsor who can process your grant. This fiscal sponsor can be an academic department, a center on campus, or a non-profit in your local community. If you are an international applicant, you will also be required to identify a fiscal sponsor which is a tax-exempt organization similar to a 501c3 in the US.

Funding Abstract: 

Each year the Michigan Botanical Club spends the Memorial Day weekend hiking and botanizing in different parts of the Great Lakes region. This year, we will be in the Niles, Michigan area, which has many amazing sites little knows to the public. This will be a great opportunity to learn more about the native spring flora and other aspects of local natural history. Field trips will be lead by professional botanists and some very experienced amateurs in a wide range of habitats and vegetation types. And, for the first time, we will offer a recreational tree climbing course.

A typical foray weekend consists of illustrated evening lectures about the area (Friday-Sunday) followed by half-day or full-day field trips on Saturday and Sunday. On Monday morning, we offer half-day trips for those who do not have to leave early. The scholarship consists of assistance with: registration fees, housing and most meals for the weekend.

AIGC administers a grant from the Bureau of Indian Education to provide financial assistance in the form of loans to eligible American Indian and Alaska Natives seeking graduate and professional degrees. 

The goal is to promote opportunities for careers with tribal governments, Bureau of Indian Affairs, Bureau of Indian Education and Bureau of Indian Affairs funded organizations on and off reservations; or organizations and other agencies with significant American Indian populations are reviewed case by case. Loans are paid back at the rate of one year (12 months) of service for one year of funding.

•Statement of Intent: 1,000 words (maximum). Your statement will be assessed on 1) grammar and content, 2) leadership, 3) community engagement and 4) level of commitment to the American Indian community; your letters of recommendation should address these areas.

•Two Letters of Recommendation from faculty and/or employer.

•Admission letter to the accredited U.S. institution you are attending, if available.

•Proof of full-time enrollment (class schedule), if available

•Current unofficial academic transcript.

•Attached Financial Need Form (FNF) from the institution you will attend; and

•Attached Tribal Eligibility Certificate (TEC) form.

Funding Restrictions: 

Master's students can be funded for a maximum of two years, MFA students for three years, and PhD students for four years. MLA students should email AIGC contact (above) for eligibility questions).

This is a loan.  If awarded you must begin your payback six months after you have graduated in a career with tribal governments, Bureau of Indian Affairs and Bureau of Indian Affairs funded organizations on and off reservations. Organizations and other agencies with significant American Indian populations are reviewed case by case.  Fellows shall work 40 hours per week and/or full‐time work week. Fellows will be required to repay loans on a 1‐1 basis (one year of service for each year of loan payment).

    LACS offers one award for the Alfredo Gutiérrez Dissertation Award in Latin American and Caribbean Studies each year. The award of $10,000 goes to one Ph.D. candidate to support dissertation write-up. We particularly encourage nominations of students whose dissertation projects have interdisciplinary appeal.
