America's national forests, parks, and refuges are some of the most spectacular landscapes in the country. What does it take to maintain the health of these treasures? Many conservation decisions are based on economic forecasts and ecological analysis. Drilling for oil in the intermountain West, road-building and logging in our nation's forests, fire suppression, and the use of snowmobiles and off road vehicles in sensitive natural areas - these are complex and pressing issues. For the past 65 years, The Wilderness Society has been urging decision-makers to use both good science and conservation ethics in managing public land.
