Speaker Biography: Margaret Bowman

Margaret Bowman is the Senior Director for Dams Programs for American Rivers. Margaret created and leads American Rivers' Rivers Unplugged dam removal campaign. Before becoming American River's senior director of dam programs in spring of 1999, Margaret served as director of hydropower programs and chaired the National Hydropower Reform Coalition.

 

Prior to joining American Rivers in July 1994, Margaret directed the Environmental Program for Central and Eastern Europe for the Environmental Law Institute. She received a B.A. with high honors from Wesleyan University and a J.D., cum laude, from Harvard Law School, where she served as managing editor of the Harvard Environmental Law Review. Her legal experience also includes work as an independent contractor to the Czecho-Slovak government, as well as an attorney in private practice in Washington, D.C., where she served as pro bono counsel to the Goose Creek Scenic River Advisory Board.
