Speaker Biography: John Hough

Dr. John Hough is an alumnus of the University of Michigan School of Natural Resources and Environment, graduating with an MS in 1986 and a PhD. in 1989. He also holds a BS in Ecology from the University of Durham, England. Dr. Hough has worn many different hats in his lifetime of conservation service, beginning his career as a volunteer, and continuing forward as a staff person for NGOs including the World Wildlife Federation, a governmental representative for Great Britain and Malawi, IUCN, USAID, the European Union, and more.

 

Since 1994, Dr. Hough has served as the Principal Technical Advisor on Biodiversity for the United Nations Development Programme's Global Environment Facility team. He has lived in various African countries for more than ten years, and is particularly interested in the challenges of developing "capacity" to achieve conservation. Dr. Hough is also active in conservation at the domestic scale, where he recently assisted in securing the addition of 200 acres to a state park within 25 miles of New York City center.
