Graduate Student Awards for the 2011 Lindau Meeting
Students nominated must:
- Be a U.S. citizen;
- Be currently enrolled as a full-time doctoral student;
- Be currently sponsored by or working on and supported by projects sponsored by the agency to which the nomination is made, and;
- Have completed by June two years (but not more than four years) of study toward a doctoral degree in medicine or physiology, or a related field, including the basic biomedical (or life) sciences.
Since 1951, Nobel Laureates in chemistry, physics, and physiology/medicine convene annually in Lindau, Germany, to have open and informal meetings with students and young researchers.
The Laureates lecture on the topic of their choice in the mornings and participate in less formal, small-group discussions with the students in the afternoons and some evenings.
In addition to this valuable interaction, the participants enjoy the picturesque island city of Lindau. This medieval cityâ€â€rich in central European cultureâ€â€is located at the eastern end of Lake Constance, just north of the Swiss Alps, at the common border of Austria, Germany, and Switzerland.
A completed application consists of:
- A completed nomination form
- a one-page personal resume of the applicant
- a one-page letter of reference from the applicant's advisor
- an essay of no more than one page written by the applicatn describing why participation in the Lindau meeting is important for the applicant's gradute education
- Summary of the applicant's support history (GSI, GSRA, etc. including the source of funding for GSRA support).
All components of the aplpication MUST be merged into a single PDF file for upload to the online nomination application.
