Our funds in greatest need of your support:
- School of Natural Resources and Environment Annual Fund: Each year, a portion of the school's Annual Fund Gift Account (AFGA) is used to meet the academic needs and enrichment of SNRE students, be it for conference travel, master's project/theses or finishing other research.
- SNRE Master's Project Support Fund: This fund was established in 2010 to further assist students in carrying out their capstone research experience. Gifts will offset costs related to data collection, travel and other project-related expenses. Currently, the SNRE Visiting Committee will match donations to this fund 2-for-1.
- SNRE Graduate Student Support Fund: This fund was established by graduating students in support of SNRE students and is part of the schoolí¢â‚¬â„¢s annual class gift efforts.
A sample of other funds created by alumni and other school supporters worthy of your support:

Students study a variety of areas, including fisheries, watershed management, river/stream ecology, wetland science, aquatic-conservation biology and Great Lakes ecosystems.

Dean's Peace Corps Fellowship: This fund provides tuition assistance to Returning Peace Corps Volunteers who choose to further their environmental education at SNRE by becoming Peace Corps Fellows.
Scholarship Fund for Environmental Justice: Established in honor of Professor Bunyan Bryant, this scholarship is given to a student in the Environmental Justice program to help cover research costs and other expenses. The recipient is someone who makes positive contributions to the Environmental Justice community at SNRE and beyond campus.
Bierbaum Award in Climate Adaptation and Mitigation: The Rosina M. Bierbaum Award in Climate Adaptation and Mitigation recognizes one or more students enrolled in the School of Natural Resources and Environment whose research examines innovative means to adapt to and/or mitigate the effects of climate change. The awardees may be engaged in interdisciplinary scholarship in SNRE or any of its joint programs.
Jonathan Bulkley Water Prize: Established in honor of Professor Jonathan Bulkley, this award recognizes outstanding students who are developing innovative solutions for managing water resources on a more sustainable basis. These solutions can come from students in a variety of fields within the School and those bridging across the University including engineering, policy, planning, ecology, and public health. Interdisciplinary perspectives are encouraged
Scholarships
SNRE wants its graduates to focus on their education, not on struggling to pay for it. To ensure U-Mí¢â‚¬â„¢s distinction as a leader in environmental education and research, we seek fellowships for exceptional students who can benefit from a Michigan education. Among the endowed student scholarship opportunities are:
- Named Distinguished Graduate/Professional Fellowship: $750,000: An endowment gift of $750,000 provides full support for one graduate or professional student each year in perpetuity. The Named Distinguished Fellowships will be used to recruit the most promising graduate students and may be named for the donor or someone the donor wishes to honor.
- Named Graduate/Professional Award: $250,000: An endowment gift of $250,000 provides substantial support for one graduate or professional student each year in perpetuity. The Graduate/Professional Award may be named for the donor or someone the donor wishes to honor.
- Named Graduate/Professional Grant: $100,000: An endowment gift of $100,000 provides a supporting grant for one graduate or professional student each year in perpetuity. The Graduate/Professional Grant may be named for the donor or someone the donor wishes to honor.
- Named Graduate/Professional Support Fund: $50,000: An endowment gift of $50,000 provides a permanent income stream to support graduate or professional education in a specific program. The funds may be used to supplement other sources of support and will be awarded to students in the desired graduate or professional program in the name of the donor or someone the donor wishes to honor.
Endowed professorships
A gift of $2 million endows a senior faculty appointment to a professorship with tenure. Such an appointment is made by the Dean and commended to the Board of Regents by the Provost and Chief Academic Officer. Endowed professorships are reserved for scholars of national and often international stature who have made major contributions to the academic discipline of public policy and whose record of teaching, research and publication is highly distinguished. SNREí¢â‚¬â„¢s current endowed professorships are:
- Peter M. Wege Chair in Sustainable Systems, held by Greg Keoleian
- Samuel Trask Dana Professor of Environment and Behavior, held by Rachel Kaplan
- George Willis Pack Professorship of Forest Entomology, held by Ivette Perfecto
- Theodore Roosevelt Chair of Environmental Management, held by Michael Wiley
