Cai, SNRE doctoral student, wins three awards for research on travel patterns of Beijing taxis

Hua Cai, a second-year doctoral student at SNRE, has won three awards for a poster presentation on research using travel patterns of taxis in Beijing, China. Her work examined the real-time trajectories of 10,375 taxis for one week to explore the impacts of individual travel patterns to plug-in hybrid electric vehicle acceptance, electrification rate, and associated implications on greenhouse gas emissions.

The poster (download .pdf below) is titled "Characterizing Individual Travel Patterns through Big Data Mining."

Her presentation received the "Best Student Poster Award" at the International Society for Industrial Ecology Biennial Conference, held June 25-28 in in Ulsan, South Korea.

She also won a second prize for best posters at the 2013 Symposium on Industrial Ecology for Young Professionals, also in late June in South Korea.

Most recently, the presentation received third place in the “Best Poster Award” category at the 2013 Association of Environmental Engineering and Science Professors 50th Anniversary Conference, held July 14-16, in Golden, Colo.
