SNRE welcomes students to its largest-ever Visit Day

3/13/2008

More than 150 admitted and prospective students will visit the Dana Building today (Friday, March 14) during the largest-ever Visit Day at the School of Natural Resources and Environment.

Students spend the day learning more about the school's 10 areas of study by talking with current students and faculty. During lunch in the Ford Commons, students will learn more about the school's affiliated centers of excellence as well as its dual-degree programs.

"We are honored that so many students have expressed interest in our programs and in attending our school," said Dean Rosina M. Bierbaum. "We are rolling out the í¢â‚¬Ëœgreen' carpet for them in our desire to make them feel welcomed at SNRE."

Dean Bierbaum begins the day with a morning welcome. A series of dinners, organized by field of study, concludes the day's events.

Participating students will be able to compute their carbon footprint as part of the school's attempt to make Visit Day 2008 a carbon-neutral event! The school is working with Native Energy to orchestrate the carbon emissions off-sets. The money will go to Native Wind a nonprofit that funds small, renewable energy projects that are in development on Native American reservations in the Dakotas.

Based on early surveys, students are coming to campus to learn more about four main areas:

* the research and projects of SNRE faculty

* financial aid, teaching and research positions

* the flexibility of the school's curriculum (dual degrees, intradual degrees and course offerings)

* project or thesis topics
