El Salvador: 2010-2012
I served in El Salvador from 2010-2012 as an Environmental Education and Sustainable Agriculture volunteer. I worked with schools, local government, women's businesses and agriculture cooperatives to promote environmental stewardship and sustainable agriculture. Partnering with various community institutions, I organized a reforestation campaign that first taught the importance of trees to local school children and then planted over 1,000 trees in areas of risk. I also coordinated a water quality campaign that taught school children about the dangers of pollutants in our water cycle and then brought them to the river where we removed two tones of garbage. I organized a small women's businesses that sold jam and wine and worked with an agriculture cooperative to incorporate organic practices.
Why a PC Fellow at SNRE?
I'm honored to be a Peace Corps Fellow at SNRE so I can continue working with under-served populations in the United States and bridge my experience in El Salvador with my graduate studies.
