Margaret McNamara Memorial Fund Grant for Women from Developing Countries
A woman may apply for a MMMF grant if she meets all the following criteria:
1. She must have a record of service to women and/or children in her country.
2. She must reside in the U.S. or Canada at the time she submits the application.
3. She must be enrolled at an accredited U.S. or Canadian educational institution and remain enrolled during the entire year of the grant.
4. She must use the grant to continue to study for her degree.
5. She must be a national of a developing country that is currently eligible to borrow from the World Bank and cannot be a U.S. Green Card holder or Canadian immigrant (Refer to Country Eligibility list on Apply page)
6. She is not a U.S. or Canadian citizen, permanent U.S. resident, or Canadian Landed Immigrant.
7. She must intend to return to a developing country in about two years.
8. She must demonstrate financial need.
9. She must be at least 25 years old by December 31, 2009.
10. She must not be related to any World Bank Group staff member or his or her spouse.
The Margaret McNamara Memorial Fund (MMMF) awards educational grants to women from developing countries whose graduate studies and future plans aim to benefit women and children in their respective regions. Commitment to this goal is an essential selection criterion.
The MMMF was founded in 1981 to honor the memory of Margaret Craig McNamara (1915-1981), the wife of Robert S. McNamara, President of the World Bank from 1968-1981.
Application consists of online application form and online recommendation forms (two required). Additionally, applicant must mail together, in one envelope, the following:
- a copy of Fall 2010 Registration
- official copy of transcript for Fall 2010 in a sealed envelope from the Registrar
- official estimate of annual expenses for students published by university
- one passport-sized photo
- copy of US/Canadian visa
- copy of I-20 or Study permit
- copy of CV/resume (2 pages max)
