Applicant Eligibility Comments: 

A New American is an individual who

(1) is a resident alien, i.e., holds a Green Card or

(2) has been naturalized as a U.S. Citizen or

(3) is the child of two parents who are both naturalized citizens.

*Must have a bachelor's degree or be in the final year of undergraduate study. Individuals already pursuing graduate study may receive support to continue that study
* Individuals who are in their third or subsequent year of graduate study are NOT eligible
* Students who have received a master's degree in a program and are continuing for a doctoral degree in the same program are considered to have been in the same program from the time they began their work on their master's degree.
* You must not be older than 30 years of age by the application deadline

Funding Abstract: 

The purpose of The Paul & Daisy Soros Fellowships for New Americans is to provide opportunities for continuing generations of able and accomplished New Americans to achieve leadership in their chosen fields. The Program is established in recognition of the contributions New Americans have made to American life and in gratitude for the opportunities the United States has afforded the donors and their family.

The Paul & Daisy Soros Fellowships for New Americans honors and support the graduate educations of 30 New Americans – permanent residents or naturalized citizens if born abroad; otherwise children of naturalized citizen parents -- each year.

Application Process and Required Materials:

* Submit two essays on specified topics (1,000 word maximum for each)
* Submit 1-2 page resume

* up to 5 pages of appropriate "exhibits" (see application for description)
* Three recommendation letters are required.  (see application instructions for details)

* submit institutional status form (available on website)
* Transcripts from the applicant's undergraduate institution and from his/her graduate institution if applicable
* Submit documentary evidence that the applicant meets the New American definition as of the application deadline
* Submit GRE or other aptitude test scores by first week of December

Funding Restrictions: 

Tuition,stipend
The Fellow must inform the Program of other awards that s/he has been offered and may be asked to accept a total package that does not exceed full tuition, fees plus $30,000.
