If you are a foreign national and your work will NOT take place in the USA, there is no tax.
If you are an international scholar we can assist you with a J-1 visa if you request it and you will be here 3 weeks or longer. You may also use a tourist visa to visit which is valid for 90 days. Use your award letter in the visa process.
The AMNH Grants Program offers modest short term awards to advanced students, postdoctoral trainees, and scientific researchers who are commencing their careers in the fields covered by AMNH. The Theodore Roosevelt Memorial Grants offer financial support to individuals for research on North American fauna in any phase of wildlife conservation or natural history.
Application Process Consists of:
Part 1: Online Application

Application Cover Page including: name, title of project, list of AMNH curators with whom you will collaborate, proposed start and end dates, list of AMNH collections, special facilities, and other resources you require (if any,) duration of grant requested (max 12 months)

Budget: Prepare a budget itemizing anticipated expenses, including supplies and travel. but not salary, associated with your proposed project, and indicate other possible sources of funding

Part 3: Recommendation Letters (2): Two (2) letters of recommendation from different people knowledgeable about your research.
The grants are meant to act as seed money for new researchers. Research may be conducted at the AMNH or in the field. The grant is able to be spent from July 1 of the application year until June 30th following the application year.
At the end of the project we require a 1-2 page report on your activities at the AMNH.
