Description

This course will next be offered in the W10 term this year only.  It will be offered every fall term starting F10.

In this course we will study forests ecosystems in the context of global change (climate change, landscape fragmentation, invasions, pests, management). We will study the ecological mechanisms behind individuals, populations, communities and whole ecosystems together with the dynamic processes associated to forests (succession, disturbances). We will also review the role and impact of humans on these communities. As part of the course we will keep up to date with current literature in the field. Students will subscribe to major ecological journals e-mail alerts and will present to the class in a regular basis summaries of published work they consider more relevant.
