Funding Abstract: 

The Koch Summer Fellow Program is a paid, 10 week internship program that offers placements for students and recent graduates interested in federal or state public policy. All internships include participation in the Washington, DC opening and closing workshops, a $1,500 stipend, travel reimbursement, and housing (or a housing allowance). The application deadline is January 31. If you want to stay close to home or work on state level policy we offer placements at over 40 state based policy organizations.  If you want to spend the summer working at a DC policy organization apply at www.TheIHS.org/publicpolicy.

In addition to a stipend, the fellowship provides: an internship with a market-based organization; housing assistance; career development workshops; writing assistance from a professional editor; and a limited number of travel scholarships.

Application Process and Required Materials: 

To apply to the program, please submit the following:

  • An online application
  • An electronic or paper copy of your college transcript with your name clearly printed on the transcript

Application essays include:

1. Write a statement of no more than 250 words on your career goals, immediate and long term, and how the Koch Summer Fellow Program would help you reach them.

2. Write a 500-word essay on a major issue of public policy. Your essay should address the significance of your chosen issue, the problems with the current policies, and your public policy approach to dealing with it.

We are looking for essays, not academic papers; please do not submit academic work with citations.
