Instructor - Prof. Ines Ibanez
MW 1-2:30PM

COURSE DESCRIPTION:
In this course we will cover from the basic concepts in ecology that apply to forests to the challenges that forests face due to global change (climate change, landscape fragmentation, invasions). We will study the ecological mechanisms behind individuals, populations, communities and whole ecosystems together with the dynamic processes associated to forests (succession, disturbances). We will also review the role and impact of humans on these communities.
As part of the course we will keep up to date with current literature in the field. Students will subscribe to major ecological journals e-mail alerts and will present to the class in a regular basis summaries of published work they consider more relevant.
