Funding Abstract: 

Each year, the grant enables a graduate student in biology, horticulture, or a related field to conduct research on a rare or endangered U.S. plant. Preference is given to students focusing on the endangered flora of the Carolinas or the southeastern United States. Fellowships may vary from $1,000 to $4,000, and will serve as compensation for work done by a graduate student.

Application Process and Required Materials: 

Applications should be submitted to the Center for Plant Conservation. They should include the following:

  • a 2-3 page proposal, which includes a description of the research project, and how it relates to the student’s academic and professional development
  • an itemized budget for the funds requested
  • a current resume
  • a letter of endorsement by an academic advisor from the institution where the student is pursuing graduate studies
  • the names of three additional persons qualified to describe the student’s character and ability
  • official transcripts for both undergraduate and graduate academic records.
