Funding Abstract:

Created to promote the conservation of rare and endangered flora in the United States through the programs of the Center for Plant Conservation headquartered at the Missouri Botanical Garden. The research grant enables a student in  biology, horticulture, or a related field to conduct field research. Preference is given to students whose projects focus on rare and
endangered flora of the Carolinas and the southeastern United States. Selection is by a panel of botanists appointed by the CPC.

Applicant Eligibility Comments:

Preference is given to students focusing on the endangered flora of the Carolinas or the southeastern United States.

Selection will be based on the excellence of the student’s personal and academic qualifications, and on the anticipated contribution of the project to the conservation of rare and endangered plants.

Fellowships serve as compensation for work done by a graduate student.

Application Process and Required Materials:

Applications should be submitted to the Center for Plant Conservation. They should include the following:

  • a 2-3 page proposal, which includes a description of the research project, and how it relates to the student’s academic and professional development
  • an itemized budget for the funds requested
  • a current resume
  • a letter of endorsement by an academic advisor from the institution where the student is pursuing graduate studies
  • the names of three additional persons qualified to describe the student’s character and ability
  • official transcripts for both undergraduate and graduate academic records.
