Josephine De Karman Fellowship
Applicant must be currently enrolled at a US university and either be a senior undergraduate student (will receive Bachelor’s Degree in June 2011) or be in the final year of a PhD program (will defend dissertation by June 2011).
Open to students studying at US institutions regardless of citizenship.
The Josephine De Kármán Fellowship Trust was established in 1954 by the late Dr. Theodore von Kármán, world renowned aeronautics expert and teacher and first director of the Guggenheim Aeronautical Laboratory at the California Institute of Technology, in memory of his sister, Josephine, who passed away in 1951. The purpose of this Fellowship program is to recognize and assist students whose scholastic achievements reflect Professor von Kármán's high standards.
Application packet includes:
- Application form, which includes: personal information, statement of interest (250-300 words), and a description of progress toward completion of dissertation.
- CV
- Official transcripts (undergraduate and graduate)
- Two letters of recommendation. Each letter of recommendation must be in a sealed envelope with the signature of the letter writer across the outside flap.
Study must be carried out only in the United States and all funds must be expended only within this country.
University's indirect cost rate may not be applied to the fellowship. It is hoped that ongoing support commitments are maintained.
Postdoctoral and masters degree students are not eligible for consideration. Special consideration will be given to applicants in the Humanities.
