Association of American Indian Affairs Scholarship
Applicants must be Native American/Alaska Native from the continental US or Alaska. Applicants must be 1/4 Indian blood (Allogan Slagle applicants excepted. Applications are accepted from students from any federally recognized or non-recognized tribe. Applications are accepted from graduating high school seniors, current college freshman, sophomores, juniors, seniors, graduate and doctoral students. Students must be seeking an Associates Degree or higher. Students must be attending an accredited school. Applicants must be full time students both fall and spring semester.
AAIA has a long history of providing scholarships to college students, awarding our first scholarship in 1948. We currently have eight scholarship programs for graduate and undergraduate students. Funding is made available due to the generosity of our donors, therefore the number of scholarships provided varies from year to year.
Application includes:
- Application coversheet
- Copy of tribal enrollment or copy of certificate of Indian blood
- Student essay
- Two letters of recommendation
- Minimum of 2 years transcripts through most recent semester
- Number of credits needed to be considered full-time status
- If you wish to be considered for the Displaced Homemaker Scholarship, an additional short essay of family responsibilities and monthly budget are required.
Funding is for both fall and spring semesters. We do not fund semesters separately. Checks are sent directly to the school. Manner of disbursement is left to the discretion of the school. Disbursement of spring checks are dependent upon fall grades and spring schedule. Students are eligible to receive one scholarship per year. We do not fund summer session, certificate programs or seminary programs.
