What Can We Do For You?
Staff in the Office of Academic Programs can work with you through all phases of student life – registering for classes, planning course work, adjusting to campus life, or finding internships and jobs. We encourage you to stop by and talk with us about courses, careers, or whatever else is on your mind.
Academic Counseling
- Explain NRE academic procedures and policies to new and continuing students.
- Distribution of documents useful to graduate students, including petitions (for both NRE & Rackham), change of advisor, and change of opus forms.
- Recommend courses to meet your program and interest requirements.
- Provide information about degree requirements.
- Perform degree audits – outlining your progress towards your degree: MS, MLA, PhD (NRE) or PhD (LA).
- Advice on how to petition for a waiver of requirements, get extensions on an incomplete, correct transcript mistakes, etc.
- Assist you in resolving academic and personal problems.
- Provide information on NRE, campus-wide activities, and other student service offices.
- Explain internships – how they work, what to expect, and how to receive credit.
Opus (Master's Project, Practicum, Thesis) Guidance
- Assist students, client organizations, and faculty in developing potential master’s project ideas and incorporating professional skills into projects.
- Assist students with finding master’s projects that match their interests.
- Coordinate the Master's Project Symposium and view past presentations: Kim LeClair

- Assist with career exploration, as well as job and internship searches.
- Maintain job/internship/post-graduate fellowship database.
- Provide resume and cover-letter reviews and conduct mock interviews with students.
- Maintain alumni networking database to facilitate student networking with alumni and alumni mentoring of students.
- Conduct internship and career-related workshops.
- Work with recruiters to conduct on-campus interviews with students.
- Facilitate Spring Break Job-Shadowing program (primarily for Landscape Architecture students).

Financial Aid
- Assist you in locating financial resources through NRE or the University at large.
- Assist you in completing the necessary paperwork for research and teaching appointments.
- Direct you to resources for health care and other benefits for graduate student employees.
- Maintain a list of scholarships, fellowships and other funding sources for students.
