Awards are given to students whose education has been interrupted for at least 48 months whether consecutive or cumulative (interruptions less than 8 months cannot be counted). Interruption examples are available on the CEW website.

This campus-wide dissertation fellowship provides dissertation support for one (1) doctoral candidate each year who is committed to using empirical science to help solve the deep and abiding challenges confronting society. The Fellowship is awarded annually to the candidate whose research gives the most promise of dealing innovatively with some major social problem.

Award: The Fellowship includes tuition, GradCare, and a stipend of $25,000. In most instances the term of the award will be limited to 12 months.

<P>The Tibor T. Polgar Fellowship program is a research program conducted in cooperation with the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation. Named in honor of the late Dr. Tibor T. Polgar, a major contributor to the early development of the Foundation, this program provides a summertime grant ($3,800 for each fellowship) and limited research funds for eight college students (both undergraduate and graduate students are eligible) to conduct research on the Hudson River.

In May 2013, the North Pacific Research Board (NPRB) will award up to six Graduate Student Research Awards of $25,000 each to three qualified Master's students and three Doctoral students for the opportunity to address scientific, technological, and socio-economic issues relating to the research themes identified in the 2005 NPRB Science Plan.
