| Short description of your work | In my capacity as Communications and Policy Associate at the Great Lakes Fishery Commission, I assist in implementing the commissioní¢â‚¬â„¢s communications program and assist in the development and implementation of commission policies. This includes managing outreach around the Great Lakes basin, in both Canada and the US, conducting annual US congressional visits to discuss commission programs and financial status, assisting in and supporting the development of international symposia, workshops, and conferences on large fresh-water lakes of the world. |
| How did you get this job | My job at the Great Lakes Fishery Commission began as a CILER fellowship and evolved into a part-time, then full-time job. |
| Related academic research | Whereas the commission is a US/Canadian entity, interest on global fresh-water fisheries is of paramount importance. My PhD research includes the study of Lake Victoriaí¢â‚¬â„¢s fisheries governance and management. It is essential to understand institutional arrangements to successfully and sustainably manage common-property fisheries globally. In this regard, my PhD spans the GLFCí¢â‚¬â„¢s goals of managing the Great Lakesí¢â‚¬â„¢ fishery and my research on Lake Victoriaí¢â‚¬â„¢s fishery management challenges. |
