Course Description:
This course will give students a solid understanding of the transportation sector as needed to address
energy and climate aspects of public policy. It will review relevant policies past, present and proposed;
examine case studies of key policies; and provide experience with policy analysis techniques pertinent to
the subject. Material covered will include: sector characteristics (for personal vehicles, freight and air);
energy and emissions data at global, national and state levels; structure and economics of transportation
markets (including vehicles, fuels, land use); sector stakeholders and institutions; policy history, current
issues and status of key policy options. This course will equip students to advise, manage and assist in
the development and implementation of transportation-related energy and climate programs and policies,
and prepare them to excel as policy analysts, planners, engineers or managers tasked with addressing
the subject in industry, government, consultancies and nonprofit organizations.
