    • U-M Graduate Teacher Certificate
    • U-M Center for Research on Learning & Teaching--offers programs to help graduate students prepare for their first faculty jobs. Topics include preparing for the job market, learning about current issues in higher education, tenure and faculty worklife, and effective teaching for a diverse student body.
    • U-M Dissertation Writing Institute (apply for a $3,000 stipend and spend 8 weeks in Spring getting feedback on your dissertation writing)
    • Writing a Teaching Statement
    • Teaching Portfolio
    • Securing a Lecturer Position.  It may be possible for PhD students to secure lecturer positions but be sure to check carefully for credentials required for teaching within each department.
      • SNRE Lecturer Positions: Contact the Associate Dean for Academic Affairs.  Provide a description of what you'd like to teach and when and submit all of your qualifications and basically sell yourself and the course to the person. 
      • Program in the Environment (PitE) Lecturer Positions: Contact the Program Director with similar info. 
      • How far in advance do I need to be thinking?  Schedules are done fairly far in advance.  Fall Term: courses determined by end of January.  Winter term: courses determined by end of September.
