SNRE Internal deadline = 09/12/2013

Rackham deadline = 10/10/2013

The Rackham International Students Fellowship Program is available to assist outstanding international students, especially those who are not eligible for other kinds of support because of citizenship. The Chia-Lun Lo Fellowship assists outstanding students who have earned a previous degree from a university in Taiwan. The $10,000 may be used as a stipend or toward tuition.

Students must have already successfully completed one year of graduate study and be in good academic standing as a master’s or pre-candidate student during the Fall 2013 term.

Each school may nominate no more than two students (three if submitting to both fellowships). Students who are US citizens or permanent residents are NOT eligible for this fellowship. Funding will be available for the Winter 2014 term. Students may only receive this award once.

Selection criteria: Students must have a strong academic record, be making good progress toward the degree, and demonstrate outstanding academic and professional promise.

Students interested in being nominated for this funding must provide the following to eeallen@umich.edu, via e-mail attachment, no later than Wednesday, 12 September 2013:

  • A one-page statement describing his/her research and future goals
  • Current CV
  • Arrange for a faculty member to support his/her request by sending an e-mail to eeallen@umich.edu, describing why s/he would be appropriate for nomination—note student’s achievements and promise, previous sources of support, and other funding circumstances

Associate Dean Don Zak, in conjunction with the SNRE Scholarship Committee, will determine which students' nominations will be forwarded to Rackham.

Once that decision has been made, applicants will be notified of their status. A formal faculty recommendation letter and draft text for the department statement, which will be due to Erin Lane by 3 October, is required for the students whose materials will be forwarded to Rackham.
