The Woman's National Farm and Garden Association offers the Sarah Bradley Tyson Memorial Fellowship for advanced study in agriculture, horticulture, and allied subjects. The fellowship is open to students who have proven their ability by several years experience. Awards have been made in recognition of leadership in cooperative extension work and initiative in scientific research. The fellowship is to be used for graduate study at an educational institution of recognized standing within the US (subject to approval by the Fellowship Committee).

APPLICATION: There is no application form. A letter or request for a brochure should be sent to the chairman of the committee with a self-addressed, self-stamped envelope. [Committee Chairman: Mrs. Harold L Matyn, 3801 Riverview Terrace, So., East China Township, MI 48054]

The application materials should include:
  1. An account of the applicant's educational training.
  2. A statement, in full, of the object in view and the plan of study.
  3. A certificate from the registrar of the school, college, or university awarding the degree or degrees received by the applicant.
  4. Support letters, i.e., testimonials as to character, ability, personality, and scholarship. Confidential letters sent to the committee are retained.
  5. Theses, papers, or reports of investigations, published or unpublished if available. These will be returned if postage is sent for that purpose.
  6. A health certificate. (Can be a written note on prescription form from a doctor.)
  7. A small, recent photograph.

Award Conditions: Acceptance of the fellowship implies the obligation on the part of the student to devote him/herself unreservedly to the study or research as outlined in the application, and to submit any proposed change to the chairman for approval. Also required: a report at the end of the first term and another upon the completion of the year's work.
