Metropolitan Studio
This course focuses on the challenges and opportunities of a developing metropolitan region, and the sustainable design solutions that can result from a knowledge of the forces in effect in the region. The seven week format provides the opportunity to investigate design solutions for a specific site, starting at the regional scale and moving down to a site-specific design solution. The class provides the opportunity to study regional development patterns and the site level issues of how existing development is put on the ground. We will also discuss the questions of livability - what makes a place attractive and livable given our changing demographics and lifestyles - and ecologically sustainable as well. Assignments can be modified for students without a design background.
