Hudson River Graduate Fellowships
Applicants must be enrolled in an accredited doctoral or master’s program, must have a thesis advisor and advisory committee (if appropriate to the institution), and must have a thesis research plan approved by the student's institution or department.
The Foundation will award up to four full-time research fellowships in 2011 to advanced graduate students conducting research on the Hudson River system. Fellowships awarded to doctoral students will include a stipend of up to $15,000 for one year, and an incidentals research budget of up to $1,000. Fellowships awarded to master's level students will include a stipend of up to $11,000 for one year, and an incidentals research budget of up to $1,000.

Application consists of:
- a proposal cover page (form is online);
- a description of the project, including a statement of the objectives and approach of the research (10 pages maximum);
- a timetable for completion of the research;
- an estimate of the cost of travel, supplies, etc (form is online);
- CV;
- a letter from the University stating that the student will receive a tuition waiver or reimbursement for the period of the fellowship; and,
- two letters of recommendation (one of which must be from the student's advisor and should certify student status, potential of student as a future researcher, and rating the project on technical merit and relevance to the HRF's goals. These letters should be sent directly to the Foundation.
The student's home university will be expected to be the primary source of support for materials and expenses required to do the thesis research, and will also be expected to cover any indirect costs associated with the project. The award is conditional upon a full tuition waiver or reimbursement by the University.
The Foundation will not accept applications for extensions of existing fellowships.
