The program is open to full-time doctoral students in the humanities and social sciences -- regardless of citizenship -- enrolled in doctoral programs in the United States. Applicants must complete all Ph.D. requirements except on-site research by the time the fellowship begins or by December, whichever comes first.

Funding Abstract: 

Fellowships will provide support for nine to twelve months of dissertation research. Individual awards will be approximately $20,000. No awards will be made for proposals requiring less than nine months of on-site research. The IDRF fellowship must be held for a single continuous period.

Application Process and Required Materials: 

The Predissertation Fellowships for International Collaboration application is only available online. Program
staff will not consider your fellowship application complete until you have: a) submitted a completed online application, b) supplied the necessary references and c) arranged for all academic transcripts to be sent directly to the SSRC offices by post. All materials must be received at
our offices by the application deadline. Only applications written in English will be accepted.
