About 5-10 AWIS graduate fellowships in the amount of $1,000 are awarded each year. The four memorial awards are: (1) Amy Lutz Rechel Award, for an outstanding graduate student in the field of plant biology, (2) Luise Meyer-Schutzmeister Award, for an outstanding graduate student in physics, (3) Ruth Satter Award, for an outstanding graduate student who interrupted her education for at least three years to raise a family, and (4) the Diane H. Russell Award, for an outstanding graduate student in the field of biochemistry or pharmacology. AWIS may also award Citations of Merit ($300).

You must submit five copies of the application documents. Collate all the documents in the order below, make five double-sided copies, and staple each copy. (Do not submit the original documents, which will not be double-sided.)
1) Summary Form
2) Research Plan
3) Resume
4) Graduate Transcript - Ph.D.
5) Graduate Transcript - Masters
6) Undergraduate Transcript - Baccalaureate
7) Other Transcripts (e.g., summer school)
The transcripts may be copies that you make. If so, also submit (not stapled into the collated material) one official original copy of each transcript. When copying the transcripts, do not include the "back" if it is used to describe the grading system -- copy only pages that show coursework and degrees awarded.
In addition, you must submit in signed, sealed envelopes,
1) a reference letter (using the AWIS form) from your thesis adviser (five copies are requested on the form)
2) a second reference letter (using the AWIS form) from a professor or research adviser (five copies are requested on the form)
All five copies of each letter may be placed in one signed and sealed envelope.
*In addition, submit one copy of a brief biographical statement.
*If you wish receipt of your application to be acknowledged, enclose a stamped, self-addressed POSTCARD (do not enclose an envelope) with the application.
All application materials must be sent in one package, including reference letters and original transcripts (which should be in sealed, signed envelopes).
