Submit an abstract to make a presentation at the Ornithological Congress (your abstract does not need to have been accepted and included in the program to qualify) – refer to the Ornithological Congress Call for Papers for details on preparing and submitting an abstract.

Be a student in good standing of a high school, college, or university in the state of Michigan or have graduated within the past 6 months from a high school, college, or university in the state of Michigan (preference will be given to students in the life sciences or with a demonstrated record of participation in conservation activities).

Funding Abstract: 

A limited number of student scholarships to the Michigan Bird Conservation Initiative's Ornithological Congress are available on a competitive basis. This is an opportunity to find out about ongoing conservation projects in the state, emerging issues in bird conservation, and to network with conservation professionals from academia, government, and the nonprofit sector.

Each scholarship covers the cost of registration, which includes six meals, and a small stipend to cover additional lodging and meal costs during the Congress (a $150 value).

Application Process and Required Materials: 

To apply for a scholarship, submit a Microsoft Word document or plain text email message to OCpapers@mibci.org which includes all of the following:

  • Your name
  • Your mailing address
  • Your home phone number
  • Your email address
  • Title of your abstract
  • School in which you are enrolled or from which you graduated
  • Major
  • Current cumulative GPA
  • Names and contact information for two (2) faculty references (must be instructors or professors at your school who have direct knowledge of your knowledge, skills, and abilities)
  • A brief statement of how you feel both you and MiBCI would benefit from your participation in the Ornithological Congress (300 words or less)
