Doctoral Track:
Resource Ecology Management (REM)
Entering year:
2007

I received a masters degree (Chair: Dr. Mike Wiley and Co-chair: Dr. Jim Diana) at SNRE, UM in 2007 and am currently continuing my PhD research to focus on my extend research interest from my MS research (Thesis title: effects of different sampling effort and taxonomic resolution on assessment metrics). My goals of PhD research are 1) to study the relationship between natural aquatic ecosystems and anthropogenic variables using the Regional Ecological Normalization (REN) Model, which I have used in Michigan for assessing stream conditions using landscape variables, 2) to understand how different landscape features in Michigan and Korea affect aquatic ecosystems (specially fish and macroinvertebrates), and 3) to develop appropriate ecosystem-based management plans and policies for sustaining natural resources and maintaining public health.

Areas of interest:

1) Effects of anthropogenic and landscape stressors on aquatic ecosystems, 2) restoration, rehabilitation, and management of freshwater ecosystem for ecological sustainability, and 3) comparative analysis of current environmental monitoring and assessment methodologies.

Research:

My general research interests are 1) the effects of anthropogenic and landscape factors on the biological diversity and aquatic ecosystem, 2) restoration, rehabilitation, and management of freshwater ecosystem for ecological sustainability, 3) comparative analysis of current environmental monitoring and assessment methodologies to upgrade the existing methods, and 4) a variety of questions associated with aquatic ecosystem and stream health assessment.
