Applicants must be enrolled in a graduate degree program in Michigan or have received a PhD degree from a Michigan university within five years of application. People born in the state of Michigan who are doing graduate study (or have received a PhD within five years of application) at a university outside of Michigan are also eligible to apply. Students holding permanent residents status are also eligible to apply.

Funding Abstract: 

The Dow Chemical Company in Hong Kong has pledged its support to a scholarship for advanced graduate students and recent PhDs of universities in the state of Michigan to spend up to ten months doing research while affiliated with the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (www.ust.hk). The Hong Kong America Center (www.cuhk.edu.hk/hkac) and the Center on China’s Transnational Relations at HKUST (http://www.ust.hk/eng/index.htm) will administer the program on behalf of Dow.

Eligible fields of study are: Environment, Energy, Sustainability, Education, Transnational Relations, Science and Technology and policy issues related to these topics. This is a unique opportunity for young American scholars in these fields to spend an academic year in a top research university in Hong Kong advancing their research and linking with scholars from China and other parts of the Asia Pacific region.
