Applicant Eligibility Comments: 

The nominee must be an ESA student member, who:

  1. Is pursuing course work leading to a graduate degree with a focus in entomology (Individuals may receive the award providing that they have not graduated more than 12 months prior to the time the award is to be presented.);
  2. Is an ESA member (student or regular) prior to January 1 of the year in which the award is to be presented; and
  3. Shows evidence of an excellent academic record.

Funding Abstract: 

Sponsored by Monsanto Company, this award will be presented annually to recognize a student for outstanding contributions to the Society, his/her academic department, and the community, while still achieving academic excellence. The award consists of a $2,500 cash prize and an inscribed plaque. The awardee is presented with the plaque during the ESA Annual Meeting.

Application Process and Required Materials: 

Nominations may be made by anyone. Nomination packages (maximum 20 pages) for this award must include:

  • Nominators must provide the information called for in the CV template, either in the template's format or in their own format.
  • A one-page letter by the applicant (one page maximum) outlining activities and accomplishments relevant to the ESA;
  • Two letters of recommendation from faculty members or other knowledgeable individuals; and
  • A notarized copy of the nominee's college transcript.

Submission Methods: Nomination packages may be submitted by either of two methods:

  • PREFERRED METHOD: Submit online via the Nomination Submission Website (see link below.)
    OR

  • E-mail the nomination package as attached files to the awards administrator.
