Student Funding

The intent of this program is to increase student exposure to the profession, and to encourage continued student identification with and membership in ASPRS as their national professional organization.

To support remote sensing education and stimulate the development of applications of high-resolution digital satellite imagery for applied research by undergraduate or graduate students.   This award is presented by the ASPRS Foundation, with funding provided by The GeoEye Foundation.

The purpose of the award is to encourage and commend students who display exceptional interest and ability in the theoretical aspects of photogrammetry.  The award is administered by the ASPRS Foundation from funds provided by the estate of Mrs. Helen Altenhofen as a memorial to her husband, Robert E. Altenhofen. A past president of ASPRS, Mr. Robert Altenhofen was an outstanding practitioner of photogrammetry and made notable contributions to the mathematical aspects of the science. .  

The Berlin Program for Advanced German and European Studies promotes a new generation of young North American scholars with specialized knowledge of modern and contemporary Germany and Europe. The Program supports scholars in all social science and humanities disciplines, including historians working on modern and contemporary German and European history. Fellowships are awarded for doctoral dissertation research as well as postdoctoral research which leads to completion of a monograph.

Jean Monnet Fellows are among the best University of Michigan graduate students who focus on Europe in their research. Student grantees receive summer grants to work on issues of European integration, and are expected to conduct research and write a paper resulting from this research on a relevant topic of their choosing. Jean Monnet Fellows are active participants in European Union Center activities, often taking part in outreach activities for local high schools, colleges, and universities.

The purpose of the award is to facilitate graduate-level studies and career goals adjudged to address new and innovative uses of signal processing, image processing techniques, and the application of photogrammetry to real-world techniques within the earth imaging industry. This award is presented by a grant from the ASPRS Foundation on behalf of corporate contributions to the Foundation by Intergraph, a technology company that provides innovative solutions to the earth imaging industry.

To facilitate research-related travel by outstanding graduate students in remote sensing.  This award is presented by ASPRS, with funding provided by a grant from the ASPRS Foundation on behalf of individual and corporate contributions to the Foundation in memory of Ta Liang, a skilled civil engineer, an excellent teacher, and one of the world’s foremost air-photo interpreters.

The purpose of the award is to encourage students to pursue a course of study in surveying and photogrammetry leading to a career in the geospatial mapping profession.  This award is presented by ASPRS, MAPPS (the Management Association of Private Photogrammetric Surveyors) and ACSM (the American Congress on Surveying and Mapping) through the ASPRS Foundation from funds donated by students, associates, colleagues, and friends of Frank Moffitt as a memorial to his lifetime contributions to the photogrammetric surveying profession.

To facilitate graduate-level studies and career goals directed towards new and innovative uses of remote sensing data/techniques that relate to the natural, cultural, or agricultural resources of the Earth. This award is presented by ASPRS with funding provided by a grant from the ASPRS Foundation, on behalf of individual and corporate contributions to the Foundation in memory of William A. Fischer, a pioneer in the use of remote sensing from space for the study of the planet Earth.

This award was created to honor Kathleen S. Anderson's outsanding contributions to bird conservation, and to promote and perpetuate her special interest in environmental research and education. The purpose of this award is to encourage significant avian research in areas of interest to Kathleen Anderson and to Manomet, and to help promising biologists in their work. Requests for support of ecological and behavioral studies of birds, especially research furthering bird conservation, will be considered (e.g. endangered or endemic species, population viability, effects of land uses, habitat requirements, migration ecology, feeding ecology, species interactions, etc.).

The AAUW Educational Foundation provides funds to advance education, research, and self-development for women and to foster equity and positive societal change. The International Fellowship program has been in existence since 1917. The program provides support for one year of graduate or postgraduate study in the United States to women who are not U.S. citizens or permanent residents.

The purpose of the Award is to encourage and commend college students who display exceptional interest, desire, ability, and aptitude to enter the profession of teaching Surveying, Mapping, or Photogrammetry.  This Award is administered by the ASPRS Foundation from funds donated by the friends and colleagues of Paul R. Wolf as a memorial to him. Recognized nationally and internationally, Paul was an outstanding educator and practitioner of Surveying, Mapping, and Photogrammetry and a great friend of the Society. As author, teacher, and mentor, Paul made significant educational and academic contributions to these fields.

The purpose of the Award is to encourage and commend college/university graduate students or post-doctoral researchers who display exceptional interest, desire, ability, and aptitude in the field of remote sensing or other related geospatial information technologies, and who have a special interest in developing practical uses of these technologies.  The award is presented by the ASPRS Foundation from funds donated by students, associates, colleagues, and friends of Robert Colwell, one of the world's most respected leaders in remote sensing, a field that he stewarded from the interpretation of World War II aerial photographs to the advanced acquisition and analysis of many types of geospatial data from military and civilian satellite programs.

The UNCF Merck Graduate Science Research Dissertation Fellowships are intended to support African American graduate students as they complete coursework, conduct research, and prepare the dissertation required for the doctoral degree in the biomedically relevant life or physical sciences.

The American Society of Safety Engineers Foundation, established by and in partnership with the American Society of Safety Engineers, generates funding and provides resources for scholarship, applied research, academic accreditation, and related academic initiatives in order to advance the safety, health, and environmental profession.

Three major Fellowships will be awarded, one of approximately $20,000 in any field of music; one of approximately
$20,000 in architectural design and history, art and design, theatre, dance, or instrumental or vocal music; and one of
approximately $9,000 in art, architecture, dance, landscape architecture, theatre, or urban and regional planning. Up to three
additional Fellowships of lesser amounts may also be granted upon Committee recommendations.

The ULI/Gerald D. Hines Student Urban Design Competition, now in its eighth year, offers graduate-level students the opportunity to form their own multidisciplinary teams and engage in a challenging exercise in responsible land use. Student teams comprising at least three disciplines will have two weeks to devise a comprehensive design and development program for a real, large-scale site fraught with challenges and opportunities. Submissions will consist of boards that include drawings, site plans, tables, and market-feasible financial data. Please visit the competition archives to view previous submissions.  ULI will announce this year’s competition site on January 18, 2010, which is the day the competition officially gets underway.

The ULI/Gerald D. Hines Student Urban Design Competition is part of the Institute’s ongoing effort to raise interest among young people in creating better communities, improving development patterns, and increasing awareness of the need for multidisciplinary solutions to development and design challenges. This competition is an ideas competition; there is no expectation that any of the submitted schemes will be applied to the site. The winning team will receive $50,000 and the finalist teams $10,000 each.

The Leifur Eirksson Foundation funds scholarly exchanges between students of the United States and Iceland. Awards are for graduate study and research.
