Mapped 25 river miles of substrate and morphology in the Sandusky River, including more detailed mapping of two miles downstream from Ballville Dam. In cooperation with the University of Michigan, field teams mapped substrate and habitat characteristics in selected reaches of the Muskegon River in mid-August. GIS coverages have been developed for the Sandusky River and selected reaches of the Muskegon River. Sandusky River project is being augmented by USFWS personnel and by OSU flow modeling project (Dr. Tim Granata). MDNR and ODNR fisheries biologists have requested copies of maps to assist with fisheries management.
Note: Additional field work by the ODNR project team has lead to on-the-ground action at the Coho Dam on the Huron River and the St. John's Dam on the Sandusky River. The project team provided riverine substrate and sedimentation data for both dam sites. Earlier this fall, the Coho Dam was breached and the decision was made to remove the remaining portions of the dam in the spring of 2002. The St. John's dam will be breached and removed in the spring of 2002. The Coho dam is owned by the Ohio Department of Natural Resources - Division of Wildlife and the St. John's Dam is owned by the Ohio American Water Company.
